The Netherlands is a transport country. Import, export and transit plus mega logistics storage centers for all those goods, it just keeps on growing.

 

In addition, there is the continueing growth of online shopping (it all costs much less there, so you can buy much more for your money). Those things must all be delivered to your home, just like ready-made meals, vegetables and so on. A practical truth,  because driving to the shopping center to buy groceries ? All those traffic jams, traffic lights and scarcity in parking places will eat up your free time and the parking money will vaporise you bargain-deals...
